YouTube now has more viewers ages 18-49 than television. It currently streams over 6 billion hours of video every month and they are in no danger of running out of content with 400 hours of video being uploaded every minute. Thankfully YouTube has matured and is not just for cat videos anymore!

YouTube is filled with fun and educational STEM videos. There are channels devoted to providing videos of STEM in action, explanations of STEM concepts, and even simple experiments to try. A well-crafted video can be used to inspire curiosity and stimulate critical thinking. Videos can be used by adults to gain expertise and confidence in a topic or shared with young people to provide background and relevance for a topic. A lot of videos are based around answering a question such as: Do fish drink water? These videos may be used to challenge the critical thinking skills of by young people by encouraging discussion and experimentation with the question before watching the video where experts take on the answer.
