The Power of Video Games

Freeze Trap! Repel! Cloak! Students across the country are powering-up learning and test scores—using video games, thanks to DimensionU.

DimensionU's cutting-edge games are a proven example of successful game-based learning. Focusing on core math and literacy skills for students in grades three – nine, each game is designed with unique features to emphasize distinct academic and strategic skills. Afterschool programs, including those funded by 21st Century Community Learning Centers, are using DimensionU's interactive multiplayer video games to engage students.

Students, parents and educators recognize DimensionU's ability to power-up learning, both in and out of school:

"My son, Micah, began playing DimensionU in third grade. He would come home raving about how great this 'video game' is that he was playing in afterschool. I was puzzled, because I know his top-rated school wasn't allowing him to play video games. So, of course, I asked exactly what this game was about. Micah couldn't get the words out fast enough when he described this fun and exciting game where he was learning math. I was thrilled!

"And the fact that the students are competing against one another made it all the more fun. Micah could not wait to play throughout the week. It built his confidence and made him an even quicker thinker than he was before. When Ms. Bartnett told me that Micah made it to the 'finals' and was going to be on the team representing Hawkes Bluff in a countywide tournament, I was elated! All the students were pumped up; the parents were proud ... and nervous (at least I was). It was such an exciting and fun tournament even if our school didn't come in first place.

"I cannot say enough positive things about DimensionU. I just wish that I would've thought of it! My son cannot wait to participate again this coming school year.

"Thank you, Hawkes Bluff and DimensionU."

—Michelle Lippman, parent, Hawkes Bluff Elementary School, Broward County, Florida

Available in five-, 10- or 15- minute increments, DimensionU games are quick and easy to use. They allow students playing the same game to collaborate—even while working on different curriculum—and help reinforce instruction from the school day in a manner far different from traditional classroom academic work.
