Member-to-Member Tip Off: Lessons for Others

Tuesday, 26 January 2021 11:05

As 2020 came to a close, NAA asked afterschool leaders in its Reopening Afterschool Facebook group to share one lesson they'd like to pass along to other afterschool professionals and leaders. As we embark on a new year filled with hope and optimism, read what these leaders had to say.

"Keep going, don't be afraid to pause and take care of yourself. I appreciate you and proud of the work we've done to support our kids and families." – Jamie Scott, Youth Program Coordinator, Edna Martin Christian Center

"Keep up the good work. I am inspired by the field's resourcefulness." – Perrin Cothran Chick, STEM Educational Specialist, ACRES project manager, Maine Mathematics and Science Alliance

"Keep youth first and the rest will follow." – Aimee Moody, 21st CCLC Grant Director, Afterschool/Summer Camp Director, LearningWorks/RSU 57

"Don't be afraid to ask questions and seek clarification from the partners and school administrative teams you work with. There are so many moving parts these days and it's ok to say, 'can we pause to get on the same page?'" – Holly Phillips, School Alignment Specialist, Utah Afterschool Network

NAA Executive members can join the Reopening Afterschool Facebook group to ask questions, brainstorm solutions, share resources, and learn from each other as our field takes on the challenge of meeting the needs of kids, families, and communities facing a very different school year.
