Addressing Adverse Childhood Experiences in Out-of-School Time

Out-of-school time (OST) programs can play a role in mitigating and preventing Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), which are disruptive to a school-age child's academic and social development.

State policies and initiatives are often the catalysts that support OST programs in this critical work.

This National Center on Afterschool and Summer Enrichment webinar—co-hosted with the National Afterschool Association—includes discussion on:

  • Research about school-age children's development and the impact of ACEs.
  • Strategies, challenges, and solutions for providing support for school-age children in OST programs in the areas of social and emotional development, safe zones, family engagement, and academics.
  • Promising practices for state system building that can strengthen supports to help school-age children overcome ACEs and build resilience.

This webinar is designed for state- and territory-level professionals, including State Child Care and Development Fund administrators; statewide afterschool network leads and National Afterschool Association Affiliate staff; 21st Century Community Learning Center leads; Child Care Resource and Referral Agencies; and other training and technical assistance professionals.

Register now and join the conversation Thursday, March 28, 2019, from 3 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. ET. Questions? Contact the National Center on Afterschool and Summer Enrichment team at ncase@ecetta.info.
