Dollar General Afterschool Literacy Award

The ability to read, write, and think critically are vital skills—important at every stage of a person's life to succeed academically, professionally, and beyond.

The Afterschool Alliance is thrilled to announce our continued partnership with the Dollar General Literacy Foundation and open the call for nominations for our second Dollar General Afterschool Literacy Award.

We need you to help us find exemplary afterschool programs that provide year-round literacy support and guidance to their students. Last year we received more than 350 nominations for afterschool programs across the country and learned about the wide range of supports afterschool programs provide their students to increase their literacy skills—from an afterschool program in Atlanta, Georgia, that provides one-on-one targeted support to refugee students in their community, to a program in Dane County, Wisconsin, that facilitates student-run newspapers. This year we are looking forward to hearing how afterschool programs are helping to develop their students' literacy skills, both during the school year and the summer. If you know a program that fits this description, nominate it today!

You can download a copy of the nomination form to review the questions prior to filling out and submitting the form online. Click here to nominate a program.

Nominations must be received by Aug. 27, 2015. More detailed instructions on the nomination process are available on the Afterschool Alliance website.

If you have any questions, please contact Nikki Yamashiro at nyamashiro@afterschoolalliance.org.
