NAA Quality Conversations

Each day, over 10 million children participate in afterschool programs. Working parents rely on these programs to keep their children learning, growing and safe during the gap hours—after the school day ends, but before parents come home from work. Parents also rely on these afterschool programs to be staffed and run by professionals who have training and expertise in working with children and youth. In a series of podcasts, NAA Executive Director Gina Warner will speak to researchers, experts, practitioners and funders about afterschool quality—what it is, how to achieve it and why its imperative.

Afterschool organizations are increasingly finding that tracking and managing data is crucial to improving programs, increasing organizational efficiency, and ensuring fidelity to your program model. Funders also are increasingly asking for proof, based on results and outcomes, that your work is making an impact. These complex data requirements necessitate processes and systems that help your staff collect and analyze data without taking them away from their work with youth for too long.

Whether you are just getting started tracking data about your programs or looking to put a system in place, this webinar will cover how to formalize your processes for tracking data, use systems to analyze that data, and incorporate learnings into your programs. We’ll also hear a case study from Urban Initiatives about their data journey.

About Exponent Partners

Thursday, September 29, 1:00 EST | Presented by FMA

FMA Logo-Web

Effective budgeting is one of the key ways to ensure that your afterschool program is using your resources in the most strategic way and that your organization is financially sustainable into the future.

This webinar will:

  • Describe a budgeting process that enlists input from across your organization
  • Highlight tools that can be used by program staff and senior leaders to develop budgets in a (relatively) painless way.
  • Demonstrate tools from StrongNonprofits.org, a web site developed by FMA in partnership with the Wallace Foundation to bring free resources for more effective financial management to after-school providers and the broader nonprofit sector.

This webinar is for Executive-level members only.

Registration is now closed.

Social and Emotional Learning

During the summer of 2015, The National Afterschool Association (NAA) conducted an online survey to learn more about program practices and practitioners' understanding, implementation and needs around social and emotional learning. In partnership with the American Institutes for Research (AIR), NAA analyzed the results of the survey and developed three calls to action for field leaders, funders, policymakers and other to better support the development of SEL competencies. Click here for the findings and recommendations.
