#GirlsAre Athletes

Today, girls in the United States are far less likely than boys to achieve the recommended amounts of physical activity—by age 14, girls are dropping out of sports at two times the rate of boys. Research shows, however, that girls and women who play sports have higher levels of confidence and self-esteem, lower levels of depression, a more positive body image, and overall higher states of psychological well-being.

In an effort to change girls' story and inspire a new generation of strong, active women, the Alliance for a Healthier Generation and the Clinton Foundation are joining forces for a second year in a row with the #GirlsAre campaign.

"We must ensure girls and women feel empowered as athletes and want to stay in the game, no matter what sport they play or what age they are," said Chelsea Clinton, Vice Chair of the Clinton Foundation and Board Member of the Alliance for a Healthier Generation.

Running through June 4, 2017, the campaign demonstrates the countless ways girls show their strength.
