Become a Certified Healthy Out-of-School Time Trainer

The Alliance for a Healthier Generation has received a cooperative agreement from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) School Health Branch to provide technical assistance and training to school districts and school buildings, to support healthy eating and physical activity in out-of-school time (OST) settings.

The first step: Create a national network of qualified professional development trainers through the Certified Healthy OST Training of Trainers (TOT) program.

Many members of the NAA community are perfect candidates for the program.

TOT programs prepare facilitators to present information effectively, respond to participant questions and lead activities that reinforce learning. The model enables experienced personnel (trainers) to show less-experienced facilitators (trainees) how to deliver workshops and resources to their frontline staff.

The Certified Healthy OST TOT program is for individuals and organizations with a strong interest in healthy eating and physical activity among OST programs in their community. The trainings, in alignment with NAA's nationally recognized Healthy Eating and Physical Activity (HEPA) Standards for OST, provide afterschool professionals with the knowledge and tools to train school-based OST staff in health and wellness.

During the first year, the program will target 13 states: Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota and Wisconsin.

Become a Certified Healthy OST Trainer by completing the online application. The deadline to apply is February 17, 2017.
