Celebrating Afterschool Professionals Appreciation Week Across the Nation

Wednesday, 26 April 2023 09:21

Afterschool Professionals Appreciation Week 2023 is finally here! This week-long celebration serves as an opportunity for leaders and organizations to recognize, appreciate, and advocate for the afterschool professionals making a difference in their community. This awareness effort shines the light on OST workers’ efforts and accomplishments, and we wanted to know how YOU would be honoring their contributions!

We will be celebrating the week with creative content and special videos from our students speaking on staff members that impacted them the most.

  • Stephen-Michael, After-School All-Stars New Jersey

We're letting each school site pick their own appreciation, Subs and soda, a bowling night out, or uniform swag! Post-It messages on our welcome signs from parents and kids, and emails to families and social media posts about the week.

  • Ericka, Millard Public Schools Foundation

We are having a staff meeting the week of APAW with quotes from students and families posted on a "Wall of Honor" expressing how much the staff in the programs mean to the families and children they serve. We will have time for peer Kudos and will hand out scratch tickets for each kudo (over 21 staff only).  We are also giving each staff member a pair of sweatpants with our logo (they got sweatshirts last year), and we will feed them, play games, and give prizes at the meeting.

  • Sarah, EdAdvance BASES (Before and After School Extended Services)

The celebration kicks off with all the students randomly picking the name of a teacher to draw.  Our center has other surprises planned.  I wanted to be part of the surprise, so I wouldn't let them tell me what was planned.

  • April, Creative Learning Center

We are giving our staff thank you cards from children/families and distributing  t-shirts.

We’ll be providing self-care kits to all team members, delivering coffee and donuts to each site for staff, providing yoga/meditation session for Site Managers, and hosting a staff appreciation luncheon on Friday, April 28th at the District Office.

  • Kelly, KidsCare - Greece Central Schools

The director created a letter to all parents asking the kids to make cards for the staff members.  I also added a little blurb on our Google site and even posted it on our easels at our entrances.  I plan to write out thank-you cards to each staff member and possibly a small gift.

  • Kristina, North Branford Family Resource Center

On Monday, we will kick off with cake and ice cream for our afterschool professionals. Also give teachers/staff a shout out on social media which is a  great way to show your appreciation for the hard work they do. Tuesday we will have our afterschool chorus sing and serenade our after-school professionals. They will also be given treat bags. Wednesday our scholars will give all staff a handmade card from them. Thursday we will have a grab and go snack table full of our staff's favorite snacks.

  • Tawnya, Stewart County School District

We ordered 950 yard signs that say "We love our afterschool staff!" and is delivering those signs to afterschool programs across the state of Missouri. The hope is for afterschool programs to display the sign outside the building where afterschool programming is taking place.  Along with the signs, each program will receive a letter of appreciation signed by MASN staff.
