Important Student Loan Forgiveness Program Changes are Here!

Tuesday, 20 September 2022 14:01

The COVID-19 pandemic resulted in financial hardship for many, including members of the OST workforce. As a result, you may now be eligible for federal student loan forgiveness for your important public service, even if you were not eligible before.

The Department of Education issued a waiver that allows you to get credit for past payments even if you didn’t make the payment on time, didn’t pay the full amount due, or weren’t on the right repayment plan. Until Oct. 31, 2022, federal student loan borrowers can get credit for payments that previously didn’t qualify for Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF). Many people in the human services sector (including those that work in OST, youth development, and nonprofits) qualify for this program but don’t know about it.

In addition, the Administration for Children and Families’ PSLF Landing Page contains helpful resources, including webinar recordings and FAQs.
