Building Effective Partnerships for Social and Emotional Learning

The new podcast series by The Wallace Foundation shares findings and early lessons from a RAND Corporation study of our Partnerships for Social and Emotional Learning Initiative (PSELI).

The five-episode series features in-depth conversations with school/district and afterschool/out-of-school time leaders about their experiences working together to help children develop social and emotional skills.

In episode 3, Caroline Shaw, executive director of The Opportunity Project, and Stephanie Andrews, interim executive director of student and family support services for Tulsa Public Schools, describe their new partnership, created at the beginning of the initiative. Greg MacPherson, chief Big Thought Institute officer for Big Thought and Juany Valdespino-Gaytan, executive director for social-emotional learning for Dallas Independent School District, explain their longstanding partnership and how they approached starting this new initiative together.

"We don't just live in this little microcosm called a school district. Our students go home every day and live in the community. So, it only makes sense that we would be reaching out to our community-based organizations, our partners, our expanded-learning partners for us all to work together to serve our students and families." – Stephanie Andrews
